Ice, ice baby...

We have had quite a crazy past few days.  Western Washington got hit hard with snow and ice.  The last big snow fall Western Washington saw was back in 2008 where I believe they got about 8 inches.  I wasn't here at the time, my family and I were in Kentucky dealing with a foot of snow there.  We loved every minute of that snow storm!

Anyway, the snow was fantastic.  My kids were outside in it as much as they could stand it.  Even my husband and I got out there, playing with our kids.  We had a great time.  All of us built a big snow fort for the kids.  I took tons of pictures.  We even got three days off from work and school! (thankfully my husband and I still get paid if we miss work due to weather without having to use our vacation/sick leave.)

After the snowfall came the ice.  That wasn't as pleasant.  Beautiful, yes.  Dangerous, yes.  The ice encased everything into a gorgeous shell.  About an inch thick.  However, it really weighed down the big trees we have in our back yard and all day and night we could hear the branches breaking off the trees, landing on our roof, the back yard and the park behind our house.  It created quite a mess.  We even lost our electricity.  A lot of people did.  All I can say is, thank God we have our gas fireplace to keep us warm when the power goes out.  We were one of the few lucky people to get our power back within two-three hours.  Some people are still without power, going on day three!  My parents lost their power yesterday and it finally came back on this evening.  I was so happy to hear that my grandmother never lost her electricity.  I always worry about her when the conditions are like this.

As of now, the snow and ice is finally melting.  It's still dangerous out there.  The city of Tacoma shut down the Narrows Bridge because large chunks of ice were falling off the beams of the bridge, causing accidents.  All day long I've heard the ice falling off the big trees in our back yard, landing 200 feet below.  Not good to be outside, to have ice crashing down ontop your head.

Despite this all, I did manage to take several beautiful photos.  Here they are...

By Monday this should all be gone and we can get back to work and school.  Let's hope we are done with our fair share of snow and ice.

Thank you for stopping by!

Beautiful! Makes me envious, we are having above normal temps here. It was muggy and 72 degrees here today. I love all of the photos, I think the second is the most interesting tho! Great captures! Send one in to the weather channel!
