My new favorite weekend place!

My birthday was last week and while it was just a normal day (work, football practice, etc), my husband made up for it during the weekend.

On Saturday the boys' each had a game and unfortunately both teams lost.  The boys were disappointed, and while the 4th graders are done for the season, the 6th graders made it to the play-offs.  We still have games on Saturdays, they just won't be as early.  Yay for that!

After the games on Saturday, James and I headed up to Leavenworth, Washington.  It's up, over the mountain pass, north of us.  I drove up there, through the rain.  I was really hoping that the rain would stay in the mountains, but when we got to Leavenworth at 6pm, it was still raining a bit.

We checked in at the office and right away the front desk lady wished me a happy birthday.  Ahh... they knew we were here to celebrate.  How sweet...

We took a trail to our cabin and when I walked in, I was amazed and surprised!  The room was just beautiful, very cozy with hardwood flooring.  I looked at the bed and there was a bunch of confetti ribbon on the bed, along with three balloons and on the table next to the bed was some amazing birthday cake that had a chocolate "happy birthday" sign going across!  I felt so spoiled!  James also had a card there waiting for me.  It was just perfect.

We changed our clothes after we checked out the room and headed to the dining area on the resort.  We had a very nice meal that was a buffet.  I was impressed, considering it was a buffet.  We had steak and halbut for dinner.  After dinner, James and I decided to head to Leavenworth to check out some of the shops.  We did some wine tasting at a cute boutique and did some window shopping before everything closed at 8pm.

We noticed the stores were all pretty much closed, so we headed back to our resort and went to the little tavern that they have on the property.  I noticed when I walked inside that they had board games to play, so we picked up Scrabble and James and I played Scrabble while he had a couple of drinks and I had a Sprite.  It was such a blast!  I won the first game, he won the second, and so we just had to play a third game, making me the winner!  As we got up to put the game away, I noticed I was sitting on a tile, the letter P, and so James was teasing me about "cheating" to get that last win. lol  I promise, I didn't even know I had been sitting on a tile!

We headed back to our cabin a little after midnight and went to bed.  The bed was fantastic!  It was the most comfortable bed I've ever laid in!  I felt like a princess!  It was so soft, it smelled good, the down comforter was perfect... we slept so good!

In the morning we woke up to a pretty morning.  There was a bit of fog in the air, but we didn't mind.  James and I stepped out to take a peek at the fountain that was in front of our room.  It was the first time we had a chance to look at it since it was dark when we arrived.

In front of our cabins, they have cute wooden chairs to sit on to enjoy....

We decided to head to the dining area for breakfast.  I loved that the meals that we ate were included in our hotel package.  That was so nice!  Breakfast was also a buffet type and the breakfast was so delicious.  I ended up having 4 pumpkin pancakes!  I didn't even know they were pumpkin pancakes!  They were pancakes with a hint of cinnamon, nutmeg... you know, those kinds of flavors, that melted in your mouth.  Total heaven.  Here we are, getting ready to have breakfast....

After breakfast, we went outside to the river that was right in the back of the dining area.  There, we could see the fog moving away quickly and the sun poke out.  I snapped quite a few pictures of the area.  It was so goregous!

The resort that we stayed at is called the Sleeping Lady.  James showed me on their website why is was called that, and to see why in person is just amazing!!  They have a mountain region that looks just like a profile of a woman, sleeping.  You can make out her hair, her forehead, her nose, chin, breasts, and arms.  Just awesome!  Can you see it too?

If you know me, or have been following my blog at all, you know my love for photography.  This place is definitely a place to snap some beautiful pictures.  Especially of the Fall follage.  The Sleeping Lady resort is full of trails and paths and it's all surrounded by nature's beauty.  I couldn't resist....

We were supposed to go horseback riding during the morning, I was really looking forward to going, so after we checked out of our room, we headed over to the stables that they have on site.  We were informed that they are no longer doing horseback riding due to the "unpredictable" weather.  I was sad because it was such a goregous day out.  So instead of horseback riding, we went back to Leavenworth and did some shopping.  I was pretty happy with shopping.  Retail therapy is ALWAYS fun and enjoyable.  They have some of the neatest stores in that town.  We went into a few Christmas stores and I bought a couple of ornaments that reminded me of my grandmother.  The trip to Leavenworth was totally worth going.

Around 2pm, we decided to drive to Wenatchee for lunch.  That's just 30 minutes outside Leavenworth.  We went to Abby's pizza, which is actually a treat for James and I.  We love Abby's pizza and since we don't have one near us, the last time we ate at an Abby's was about seven years ago.  It was so much fun to eat and to be with each other...

After Abby's, we thought we'd better slowly make our way back home.  We could only stay one night in Leavenworth because James was having surgery on Monday and we needed to be home.

As we were driving down the freeway, we passed a sign for apple picking so we decided to stop and we picked apples together.  We were kind of bummed because the only available apples for picking were Red Delicious.  We aren't really a big fan of those apples, but we picked them anyway, about 5 pounds worth to take home to family and friends.  We had such a good time picking apples!  I loved it!

While we were picking apples, we noticed this cute little heeler, walking around with my husband.  Apparently James had made a new friend.  What a sweet dog.  He followed us back and took a snooze while we paid for our apples.

We said our goodbyes and started to head home.  Before we left, we stopped at a large antique store and did a little shopping.  While walking around, I found some Scrabble tiles for sale.  I laughed, thinking back to the other night of playing Scrabble with my husband and immediately started to dig for the letter P.  I found it and bought it! lol  It's such a cute little joke between us now, and it will fit perfectly in my scrapbook of our trip.  James bought a cast iron skillet and I bought a cedar chest.

We finally made it on the way home.  We took I-90 all the way home and this time we had nice weather going home.  We got home a bit after 8pm and stopped by my parents house to pick up our kids.

All in all, it was such a great weekend.  James and I definitely want to go back to the resort again.  What's great is that the resort is pet friendly and it's a great place to bring your kids!  The rooms are so cozy and fun, they even have a loft that the kids can sleep in.  Here's a couple of pictures of our room.

Here are the stairs that go up to the loft, where a full size bed is up there.

My husband upstairs, in the loft....

Our comfortable bed...

If you are still reading, thank you so much for following along.  I know that sometimes I can get carried away and just type so much that I'm sure I probably bore some of you with my ramblings.  I appreciate you so much though for taking the time to look at my pictures and read what I have to say.  Thank you!
