magic of a tooth fairy

Sean lost his front tooth today. It's been wiggling for quite some time and he got tired of it wiggling so while I was gone today, he decided to yank it out himself. He was quite proud of himself, just hope that he got all of it when he took it out. I'm a dental assistant, so that's important to me, to make sure there wasn't any tooth particles left behind. I love when kids lose their teeth. They look adorable when they smile.

I remember when I was a kid and I had a loose tooth, my mother would pin me down on the ground and take a tissue and yank it. I remember being so scared when she would do it because I remember it hurt. I swear she loved doing it. And then after all that pain of it being ripped from my gums (ok, not really "ripped"), we would put it under my pillow for the tooth fairy. I remember waking up several times a night to check, but there would be nothing until early in the morning, a quarter would appear. A whole quarter. That's it. Somehow I was happy with a quarter, but now a days, my children would probably be a little upset and I'd probably hear, "mom, I can't buy anything with a quarter!" No, you really can't these days... it's not that my kids are spoiled and have everything, but it is a special time in their lives where loosing teeth is neat, therefore we do take the opportunity to spoil them during these times. After all, it's an exciting part about being a kid! So my kids.... let's just say, I've (I mean the tooth fairy) gave out 5.00 one time for a wayward tooth. ONLY because my oldest son was so brave and had it removed by a dentist while he was under sedation. This tooth here... maybe worth 2.00. We'll see what the tooth fairy can spare. ;)
